So I haven't had a lot of time to actually drive the car with the new turbo. Currently I am running essentially my same ignition timing maps that I had using the K24 at around 18 psi max of boost. I put a 7 psi spring in the TIAL waste gate and currently have my boost controller disabled.
Where should I feel peak torque with GTX 3071?
I put a compression lowering head gasket in. I assume I will need to advance timing across the entire range due to this?
Is it true that the larger turbine equals less of a restriction and therefore I will be flowing more air at a lower PSI? How will that effect my timing?
The K24 seemed to spool to peak engine torque somewhere around 2800 rpm or so? It is hard to tell with the 7 psi spring on the GTX but it seemed like the lag was definitely noticeable albeit I have changed a lot on the motor and am only running a 7 psi spring.
It almost seems like I need some advance in the range of the K24 peak torque with the new turbo. Basically shift my torque curve timing "SCOOP" towards the GTX point of torque.
Anyways, was hoping to get a little discussion on initial tuning since I will be doing it on the street without a dyno.
My fueling seems to be really good. A/F is running 14's at cruise, full throttle I drop down in the low 12's. So all this assumes my fueling is relatively dialed.
What say ya'll

Logs tell all! But basically, stick with spring pressure for boost, dial in your fuel using LOGS and sort out any other issues. Then begin raising boost!
What was the cr lowered to? You'll need a bit more timing but leave it until fuel is double checked.
The big hot side will flow more but be more laggy. I would expect full boost and therefore peak tq around 4000-4200 RPM. So a big change from the k24.
Which injectors again? I have a very good base tune for my 30r which is very similar to the x3071, on pump 91 on stock compression, .82 hotside, 7a cams. It's worth a look over to get a good start, I can upload a log here so you can compare tables.

I still need to work out the 034 log situation. I am running excel on the "New" windows and it seems like my logs get saved in random locations. I will get on that when I get back to the car.
The CR was lowered to 8.3 give or take a bit.
My fuel injectors are 60lb with a 4 bar FPR
Yeah man, send me those logs, I would love to do some comparison. Thanks dude

Oh crap you are on 034, forgot that too. That will make comparing logs and/or tunes pretty difficult. I had the same fuel setup, with an 044 pump. When I was running 28psi I was at 86% duty cycle, I would expect you'd be close as well. That's about all you can safely do with those injectors. They turn into 727cc @4 bar
You will definitely need some more timing with compression that low. 100kpa and under can be pretty advanced, but I can't rally say how much because I don't know where you're starting. You will definitely want to have a dip around peak boost.

I could definitely use the timing. The fueling is looking pretty good.

You have any dyno graphs or did you street tune? A dyno graph would be helpful

We got a 3B for another conversion. (Blow me Taco) Going to start swapping this into my buddies "Flat Black 4K."

Here is a pic of the strut tower brace we installed on my 4K

We have everything for the 3B conversion except the flywheel and the coil. Coil should be on the way but we may need one.
Going Motronic on this.

I too would have loved to see you put the original MC2 plan in action for the flat black 4k, but that's OK, I like to 20v as well. My next swap will be a 3B.

We wanted to, we had a really hard time sourcing the motor. Force 5 had one but it took them so long to pull it. They never even did pull it for us after waiting for months and months. We had a really hard time communicating with them. (Seems like it is that way with everybody)
After Force 5 we went back to trying to find a complete 200 to no avail. So when the 3b fell into our laps we said fuck it.
We really wanted the MC motor, either 1 or 2.

I dont blame you. The 5k avant I got my MC1 from pretty much fell into my lap as well. Keep at it, I enjoy watching different swaps.

Apprently since my last post I have gotten some stuff done.
3b swapped a 4K we brought back to life just prior to the owner junking it.

Swapped out the old grey cloth with some Quattro script we found in another car about to be junked as well....

Then we swapped the motor and did a Gt3071/RS2 EM/IROZ Exhaust ect... swap on my brothers S6 avant. The motor that was in it was done. Heavy scaring on #5 cylinder and pretty much all valves in the head were loose to the touch with major surface damage in all the domes.

Then I got up with Marc Swanson and had him write me a tune for a GTX 3071 on my S4000 while I pulled the 11c out and installed the Motronic.
I also added a much needed oil cooler and a much larger radiator.
Of course there were tons of hiccups from clutch/flywheel order fuck ups to a bad ECU but everything was eventually worked out.

And while I was doing all that with my car I came across a beautiful white 4K with that lovely Quattro script. I had to buy it.
This will have an AAN with 3b plumbing.

Some more random pictures of the last 8 months or so.

So much head

Full Hersh performance upgrade with HR springs and Bilstein HD shocks.

The only laminar flow MAF setup for the S4000 that I could come up with in that tiny bay.

3+ in the S4K

Low mile AAN ready for install into the S6 Avant brought to us from the boys at 2Bennet. You get what you pay for.

Marc Swanson actually sent that beer with this little package, that guy is a genius.

And my dogs, "4000" and "Quattro"

For sure, I am more about the pictures at this point, I can't seem to find the time or the inspiration to catalog every little detail. Besides, everything I am doing has been done for the most part. Seems like I get a lot of PM's though

Started working on a little more tame (for now anyways) 4K AAN for the wife to drive

Anyways, this white 4K has about 30 years of grime in the engine bay. I've spent more time cleaning shit then actually building. Here are some pictures.

Brought it inside for the first time in a while. I finally got all the details dialed on the black 4K.

Pulled the old power horse out.

Lots of cleaning-not very fun but I did have Opeth and Tool to keep me company as well as some Neil D. Tyson and Joe Rogan.
That hood though....

Motor cleaning and assembly blah blah blah. Been done so many times at this point who cares. 07K's are the rage now anyways

Did a little more shit to the S4K as well. Mostly cosmetic stuff. I did add a catch can though.

I did get an AAN idler beautifully machined by Issam Abed. It's cut down to the size of a non AC 100 bracket as well as new bearings and a new idler. Issam is the shit, hit him up if you need some special stuff. Oh yeah, he has more AAN parts then anybody in the world. It's hard to see in this picture. I will be doing the same for the White 4K.

Went and washed the old black for the first time in a while.

awesome all around. Im jealous of your stable of quattros. You guys must not use road salt up there, right? No way i could find that many clean 4k's around here.

Nah, no salt up here. Pretty lucky actually. That's not to say I have came across some pretty bad junkers.
