Huh?? :frustrated: Reflective materials are used becuase they reflect away IR heat waves, the reason why things get hot when exposed to radiated heat sources...
Silicone covered "fire sleeve" is made of a heavy fiberglass weave coated in ultra-high temp silicone rubber, this silicone has a higher heat rating than most "reflective" surfaces, its also flexible and stretches, the color in inconsequential IMO, matter of personal preference.

alright, little more progress this weekend. Haydn stopped by on Saturday so I made the engine go boom bang a few times
http://www.theswansonfamily.us/modules/ ... t.wmv.htmlput in a plug for the power steering pump

tied some of the hoses out of the way of the downpipes

yeah..

rigged up a filter for the passenger side

drivers side

mount for 1.8t intake temp sensor

I tried to re-use the factory connectors whenever possible. This is the one to drive the tach green/blue wire, pin 10.

radiator fan relay trigger, the brown/green wires

finally got my pipes back from the welder but not until I was heading home from the shop tonight. Oh well, it'll be pretty much ready to roll next weekend

No, I cant weld like that

Marc, just curious, how much did all of that welding run you?

meh, the welds are very nice but I thought the price was a little steep. S'ok, saved me a bunch of time doing it myself

ok, another question for those in the v8 brain trust.. (That means you, RON

)
I need to hook up oil temp and pressure gauges. There is a 2 pin sender near the oil cooler ports that I think is the pressure sender. If its anything like the 5 cylinder senders, one pin would be a pressure switch and the other would be the gauge signal. Which is which?

:thanks:

newt wrote:Use an ohmeter, one of the pins will read either open or closed at any given time, the other will be a variable resistance for the gauge
ok, so it IS like the 5 cylinder oil pressure sender? I'm not afraid of using an ohmmeter by any means but I just wanted to double check that it wasn't something crazy like a combo temp gauge or something...

I don't man that's a lot of welding!! Let see....how many hours of prep and welding are there multiplied by (marc what are you billing yourself out an hour these days?) yeah I say you got a good deal.

well, I think a pro could have whipped it out in a few hours. it certainly would have taken me a good full day to do all that welding but I've seen how fast the pros can tig aluminum and its sickening.

no, and you're worse than nate (I think I had about 15 IMs with 'is it done yet' from him :-P)
Any updates? or Pics?
why yes, yes I do have a few updates/pics

decided to powdercoat the pipes

I meant to coat them black chrome to show off the weld beads but I must have put wrinkle black in the jar marked for black chrome. Oh well, came out pretty good anyway

Had to replace the master cylinder, the old one never gave me any kind of a pedal :-( Thanks to Myke for help on the diagnosis.

dimensions are close enough to the steel master cylinder so it still fits fine

seemed a shame to throw away a perfectly good ricer tip

so I 're-used' it, mwuhaha

I also worked on the rear section of the exhaust today, didn't get too far on that but got the 3" to 2 1/2" reducer done, still need to finish the over the axle piece.. right now I just have a 3 bolt flange setup

getting close....

I really should be working right about now, but I I just cant resist playing with toys

bought one of these bad boys off Nate 'used' which is handy since a lot of the config stuff was already set :-P
I was going to install this thing after completion of the main engine swap but then though I ought to install it now since I haven't hooked up things like a separate water temp sensor for the instrument cluster, etc.
I looked over the wiring diagram to decipher what wires nate had running to what and it was pretty neat to be able to hook it up to my desktop PC and grab the current config.
now a few questions for Nate while I'm typing away:
I see you have an alarm set for fuel level on what seems to be analog input #8. What did you hook that wire up to, the standard level sender wire from the tank?
also, you labeled one of your inputs 'fuel pressure'. What did you use as teh sender to drive that?
lastly, on the speed pickup I know you mentioned you used an ABS sensor. If I'm reading the diagram right you used pins 10A (ground) and 12A (speed +). does the polarity matter on those to the sender?
thanks!

DROOOLLL - A similar setup with datalogging and video is on my shopping list

Thought I would chime in and let you know I found speedbleeders in the correct size at the Portsmouth / Newington Pepboys last night for $9.99 a pair. I didnt buy them as I already have a spare set that I paid the $10 Summit handling fee and shipping on
