B&M 12x12 80 bux(!!) at summit racing. I've heard people bitch about the quality but frankly I haven't had a problem (I run one on my wagon too). You just have to make sure to use a wrench to secure the socket on the oil cooler when spinning on the 1/2" NPT adapters, otherwise the metal will twist.

Sweet, looks like I have another project coming :D

Hi mark I happen to notice today that the v6 starters have a longer gear than the 7a starter. I suspect that the starter you got was from a v6 setup.

I'm not sure but figured I mention it. I happened to be reading your thread and wasn't sure if you knew why it happened.

If anything I'm happy I saw the difference so it doesn't happen to me. :D

Are you refering to the starter gear marks on his FW & the spacer he had to make?? if
so I can assure you that the starter is from a V8q. The reason I know that is cause the starter was mine & I gave it to him.

Mine(starter) did the same thing to my AL FW(I think Marc and I are using the same AL FW, Spec clutch?) but I didn't have the problems that Marc did with his. IE: mine dug into the FW, but it just chewed into it, it didn't keep it from rotating :P . Not sure why that is. :?

When I asked about it I was told it was a good sign, meaning it was making full contact and at least it wasn't doing th opposite

well it seems some of the starters have different gears. My 7a starters are about 3-5mm shorter than the v6 starters.

Didn't stop Marc's either, I noticed that this battery was no good and that's why it wasn't cranking right.

it slowed it way the hell down tho, because the starter ring gear failed to retract after ignition off, so I was fighting the torque of the starter motor on every crank revolution by hand.

got a bit of a late start at the shop today since I had to deal with some web server shiz (some of you may have noticed motorgeek was down the AM, that would be part of it...)

Anyway, got some intake plumbing further along today. I had to switch to a different gas tank for my welder because they sold me argon last time that.. isn't.. argon. Dunno what the hell it was but the welds were coming out ugleeeee as sin.

I've got very little clearance between the small front mount intercooler and the outlets but by cutting the stock outlets off the core and welding on 45 degree pieces of mandrel bent pipe I was able to clear the bumper with no cutting:

The drivers side intake plumbing is pretty much done.. I just need to get some more 2.5" mandrel bends to finish everything up.

Image

Shot of the plumbing into the intake manifold:

The 'y' pipe will join somewhere down here:

Image

As for an intercooler for the passenger side turbo, my stock S6 intercooler was too big, so I bought a small intercooler of an eclipse that will take its place.

More updates tomorrow, I'm hoping to have the radiator sealed up by then :woowoo:

other happenings around the shop:

Dennis has been busy :-D

Image

Eventually a k24 will live there, with a 20v/20v style external wastegate :-D (needs to move the wastegate flange a bit tho)

New brake lines on his UrQ too, nice job Den!

Image

Note to self, use somma that stuff next time I need to do a brake job (plastic coated steel tubing)

spent part of today working on teh car.

pressure testing the radiator

Image

I ended up completely redoing the y-pipe from the version I had initially built for the NA setup. I wanted a closer ratio 'y' so I ended up fabricating one that joins at about a 30 degree angle

Image

Image

and the finished y-pipe to downpipe exhaust section

Image

Image

I also installed a 3" car chemistry insert after the collector

Image

All I had to do was just drill some small holes where I wanted the insert to sit and tack weld the insert in place. I really like these things.

Image

Still need to fabricate the rear section, probably next weekend :woowoo:

Its a stealth chambered muffler. Check Car Chemistry's website for a full explanation.

cabrio Q ;)

I had heard of car chemistry inserts before.. in fact I threw one into an 80q I used to own to quiet down a single muffler setup I had on the car at the time. Worked like a champ.

'new' intercooler for the passenger side turbo arrived today. I shouldn't have any difficulty fitting this into the available space.

This one is a stock unit off a mitsu eclipse:

Image

Also, I never posted these pics from last weekend, did a little more work on the exhaust (added bung for wideband, started mounting MR2 power steering pump)

Image

Image

And here's what the PO of my coupe thought was a 'cool' exhaust system mod. Cripes, most of the adnoH ricer tips I've seen aren't even this big :-P :bashtard:

i'm gonna bet that you get a lot of P/S harmonics with it mounted solidly to the fender well there ;)
