Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - 465whp/430wtq
Have you checked to see if the QSV N75 actually buzzes under any conditions?
I would think that the cell of the lowest MAP row at the lowest RPM column, if set to 50%, should buzz contentedly with key on only.
Also, and this is a question to which I don't know the answer: How does a QSV react when partially open? Is it desirable or does it just act like a restriction in the middle of the turbine inlet?

To test if you have the wiring right, use the "Assign Output Channels" page.
turn "test mode" on, have somebody put a hand on the valve, then in the software click the button to turn the valve "on" and "off". you should be able to hear/feel it click. Or use a multimeter, but what fun is that?

multi-meter schmulti-meter. I'll check it tonight if possible. Thanks Marc.

We fused the N75. Turns out the fuse is toast (N75 wouldn't cycle, no power to it w/ multimeter). No wonder it didn't work
We'll be swapping it out and tinkering with it some more.

Swapped the fuse, can definitely hear it clicking now. I'll have to wait a bit to actually take it out on the road, got family up and there are kids everywhere. ha

Hi there guys, I was wondering if you use the quick spool vale? and is it as god as they proclame?
Im a little skeptic of setting a valve in front of the turbo, especially when using launch control. But the spool time is silly

Yes, we use the quickspool. On this car it makes about a ~900rpm difference for the same boost. ~4100rpm with quickspool working, and ~5000rpm without it. We use a .82 35R divided T3 housing machined by Comp Turbo to fit their CHRA. With a 1.0AR housing the spool time was up another 1000rpm.
We've done launch control a couple times, but only short bursts and not while actually launching the car, only for show. So far no problems, but Sound Performance have recently updated the valve for people who use launch control.

Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - WOT video/N75 :)
Some video for y'all to enjoy.
Got the N75 working well tonight. Shoulda done it a long time ago. There is so much control over it. Here you can see the first run vs. final settings in VEMS logs. Just look at the red boost line.

Now for the semi-final settings. I'm sure it'll be fine-tuned at Brady's but it was very easy to tune and see where the changes made the difference. Took three runs to get it pretty well dialed.

And finally the vid. Just outside the car. Listen for the 044 hiss at the start just before it cuts, and then in the last clip watch for the back end squat and release when dad lifts. TURN IT UP

Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - new vid :)
Oh and one more thing.
There seems to be a decent amount of oil coming out of the valve cover, sprayed the turbo/exhaust manifold. It seemed a bit smokey so we stopped to check it. Not sure if the catch can is full (shouldn't be, drains back into block) or if something else is going on. We'll have to do a compression test soon. When we put the new turbo on from Comp we noticed right away that it was smoking, so we figured bad turbo seals. It would go away once the car was warmed up. Anyway, just something else to get to the bottom of...

Could be the crankcase pressure is too high somehow and pushes out the valve cover gasket..

Not sure if it's compression either. The car is pulling like a freight train, as good as ever.

Yeah a leakdown will have to happen after that. We couldn't really tell how much smoke was coming out the exhaust because the roads were wet.

Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - new vid :)
Oil out of the valve cover meaning coming out of the gasket? Might just need sealed up. The *only* way I have been able to get a 100% seal on these gaskets is:
1) Thoroughly clean both surfaces, as well as the gasket itself with a good degreaser. Need to remove any/all oil film/residue to get a good seal. Clean out all of the bolt holes as well.
2) Run a small bead of silicone sealant on both sides of the gasket and on the half moons/etc.
3) Torque to spec - make sure not to over-tighten or it will leak between the bolt holes.
If you still can't get it to seal, consider adding additional breathing ports from the cover. Once AANs start making serious boost/power like yours, many of them require additional breathing from the valve cover. Have a couple of AN fittings welded on the valve cover and run them to the catch can as well. I have not had to do this on my car yet, but probably will soon enough - especially after this most recent upgrade. With the old setup, my catch can was about half full after a full track day.

Thanks for that Ed. It was not coming out of the seal, but out of the open port that normally goes back into the turbo inlet hose. Maybe we just need to put this back to the catch can as well.

Are you sure? That doesn't make sense. That is nothing but a closed pipe that goes through the valve cover and comes out the back. It is not open inside the valve cover, so unless you have something connected to the other end of it, it couldn't be coming from there.

Yeah that's what dad said. We just have to have a better look at it in the light. Black everything isn't good for visibility in the night.

Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - new vid :)
Figured out the oil problem. The catch can is overflowing. Dad and I think that since we dropped the tranny to change the clutch the routing for the drain has changed a bit. It seems to drain really slow now, even after ~30 minutes with the car off it's not empty.
So before our little local meet on Thursday we'll have something to work out.
I took my little sister for a ride. She sure liked boost
She's the one who crashed the 96 europa which made dad buy the built 97... so technically she started this whole mess!!

Re: Pops' 1997 S6 2.5L Stroker - new vid :)
ruh ruh, might be pulling the motor
the motor has always been loud but dad recently decided that something didn't sound right. I agreed. Today dad messed around with the stethoscope - head seemed fine, bottom end seemed fine, but right around the head gasket (I presume on cylinder 5 since the rear of the engine is where the tick seemed to be coming from) it seemed to be pretty noisy.
He drained the oil and found only a few small steel bits. Thoughts so far are rings, wrist pins, or pistons. Pretty inconclusive at the moment.
Not sure whether to pull the whole thing or pull the head and pull the oil pan. The whole thing will probably come out. Sigh...
