While you are in there, maybe check that the ECU is seeing manifold action too?

Nothing better than toasting your motor because the ECU doesn't know the real situation at the motor end of things.. :frustrated:[/quote]

Nothing Better? Don't you mean nothing worse or are you thinking like me in that frying the motor because of an ecu that isn't seeing boost and controlling accordingly would be a good excuse for a 20vt? :D I can't think that way however because this is the DD and not the hotrod Urq. Must resist.

Maybe you should slip that stroker motor into this car for a little shakedown cruise so that it will be dialed in when you meet up with these guys....

Jonh, here is some info about the Tilton Prop valve that I use in my Blue Pill: Tilton Info

Its available in metric (M10x1.0), the rest of the system in the car is M10x1.25 so we need to get the appropriate fittings when we make the one line.

Image

The main reason for running this is to send more pressure to the rears because the G60 fronts are more efficient than the G54's they replace. With the factory balance, they fronts will literally do all the work, and the rears will barely wipe the surface rust from the rotors. With the mechanical torque split in the first generation quattro system (quattro v1.0) ( :D ), you need to send way more pressure to the V8 rears in order to utilize their capabilities. If you were to use the lever-type prop valve, you would likely run it in position 6 or 7 as mentioned in the page above to send as much bias to the rear as you can.

Normally you would assume that you use this bias valve to 'cut' line pressure, but in this case you use it because it lets you send more pressure to the rears than the factory valve will allow.

As far as the dimmer switch, I might have one new in box from a few years back when Blau was closing them out, I bought one for the heck of it. I still think our best bet is to hit the pick-a-part in hopes that there is a 4k or two over there that has a good one in it. Then again there is some good news to be found here: AutohausAZ

Where did you buy it......Summit? I need to do something with my brakes. Right now I'm running with the rear circuit capped off at the Master which leaves me strictly the front G60 brakes. It does pretty good like that, but I could use the rears also.

Is this the valve? Where did you get the 10x1.25 fittings for the brake line?

I might have bought it from Pegasus, I know they stocked the metric one at the time. Looks like Summit has it too: PN: TIL-90-1003

I bought a bag of the M10x1.25's for the Lancia project (yes I stole Lancia parts to put on your Audi) from Federal Hill.

Fed Hill should also have the M10x1.0's If you place an order before I do, let me know, there are a few other fittings I need from them.

Well, you have me there! :D

Nothing 'worse', if you don't have the time / money / source for a 20vt.

If you do, then yes, perhaps 'nothing better'! :woowoo:

Either way, having the line to the ECU open sure helped *my* head gasket on it's way to failure..

Yea, this car isn't in line for no 20v upgrade until the hot rod 2.5 strioker is on the ground and running... This is the driver, not the project. The hot rod does already have a deadline, we just haven't told anyone what its for. :-)

The only problem I see is that it might take a full year to get enough brownie points built up to start on the hotrod Urq. :hide: I have to still work some bugs out of the driver Urq like headlights. I got blinked no less than 6 times coming home from work this morning. Is all I have is high beam until I find a dimmer switch mechanism to replace the broken one in the car. A blower that worked, more boost, rear brakes, drivers window regulator, and a few odds and ends would also be nice. Didn't you read a few pages back that until Renee takes ownership of Her Urq, I can't move on to mine? :o

Yep but I also read whe as soon as she takes delivery of it that she'd sell it. And I'm gonna buy it and gut it and cage it and build my own hot rod. *evil laugh* hoohoohooohaahaaahaaa. I'm gonna part out an Iroz car if it's the last thing I do. LoL

The easy fix for your 'brights' would be to just swap the connectors for the lights from the highs to the lows. That way the lights that were on would be the lows right?

The low beam is part of the two element sealed beam. I suppose that you could leave the 3 prong connector off and see if the 2 pin connector would slide over just two of the three prongs on the dual light. If the center pin happens to be the return wire though, I may be screwed. It's worth a try, or just keep annoying oncoming traffic.

save the auto for me :)

John, i would have liked to swing by yesterday, a chance to hang out and talk Audis, eat grillins, etc is always appreciated. but Chub REALLY wanted to go to the San Diego Zoo..... Elephants and Monkeys. and he is a good kid and deserves the culture. we had fun. all entry free via passes from the family.... it was a long day but it is a really good zoo.

i will give it a few days to order the top mounts. so i will get you 6 fronts, right? per Seans experiences? i, too, think top access is best.... i will follow suit for mine.

you just let me know, and we can square up when they get there to you.....

I got my second set of CompBrake units in the other day. I will add these to the front, but based on what I have seen so far with the rears - it's gonna be hard to beat these...

If you request it, they will machine the offset of the bearing to give you 1ยบ negative camber. I just ordered two sets of standard...

and you could use the 1 deg for either camber or caster, depending on how you tighten it in the hole, right?

John, you just want 6 straight up no special degree offset fronts. CHECK!

Sean, you have room for a genuine Euro plate?

I never thought about rotating the piece in the tower. I bet you could do that and a degree of caster I'd take. I really didn't want any camber. Make that 4 straight up and 2 with the degree of offset.

I can't believe that this car sprang to life the day after Battle Born Quattro, and since then has traveled more miles in the last two weeks than my car has logged all year LOL

I can't wait for a ride!

It's true that I have put about 750miles on it since the Monday after the GTG, but all is not sunny with Urqs in the Iroz garage. Sometimes I wonder why we even mess around with these old cars. If it is starting to sound like I've had about enough Urq wrenching lately, then my feelings aren't being lost in the interweb of the internet. :frustrated:

Since it runs I've been dealing with the oil pressure switch leaking which is pretty difficult to get to, a temp switch on the head that was broke off and needed an easy out, lights that didn't work, horn not working, vacuum leaks in the diff lock system, still no rear brakes, and the list goes on and on. On top of that I have done 70hr work weeks for the last two. I don't have time for the small crap.

Yesterday I had a much needed day off and decided that this had to be the day to get the car smogged and registered as the temporary was running out and I wouldn't have a bunch of time later to deal with it. The totally wasted day started the night before when I got off of work to a full blown storm with flash flood warnings and no windshield wipers. On the way I ran into intersections that were flowing water deep enough to cover the sidewalks and had to back track around but couldn't help from going through a few to get home. Water was up to the bottom of the doors and is all I could think about was how everything had been so clean and that Sean wouldn't drive his Urq in this mess. Back to the smog outfit where I'm sitting idling while he hooks up the tach and sniffer and just as he is ready to run the test I notice that I'm starting to overheat as steam is escaping from the cap on the overflow tank. I step over to make sure it is tight and it strips a thread and proceeds to blow antifreeze all over everything at which time I notice that the cooling fan isn't running. I shut the car off and look underneath at the fan temp switch on the bottom of the radiator and find that somewhere in the wading through the floods a wire has been knocked off of the switch. The operator tells me he can't proceed and that I will have to come back when it cools and I have a new cap, but that he can give me a free car wash pass. I take him up on his offer and spray down the engine compartment, and leave it in the sun to dry while I walk to Autozone to get a cap and a gallon of antifreeze. The car is back to looking pretty decent, has the cooolant topped off, the fan working, and is again ready to smog.

It didn't pass the idle test. I pay him the $20 and leave pissed off about wasting the whole day and wind out first pretty strongly until I hit 4krpm. You guessed it...I now have the dreaded Urq 4k cutout to deal with. :frustrated: :frustrated: At least I have a horn that works now after I reattached the wire........turn the key and the horn blasts until the key is turned off. At that point I went inside and watched Oregon put a whooping on UCLA. Stupid old audis anyway!! :curses:
