Scotty sent me this picture midway through the week and said the trans will ship out on Monday!!! I am super excited for a fancy high bias rear diff and a front torsen to put the power down!! I have been researching swapping Nissan rear diffs into the URQ is an attempt to come up with an clutch LSD, but I think I am goign to start looking for a torsen to swap into a rear diff and have it ready for track days only.

I still can't help but wonder about performance RWD diffs. One of these must be up to the task:

Of course you can get one for a Ford 9" which comes in a million configurations. More custom starts making one from Scott more reasonable.

The most promising to me is that the rXXX rear differentials are available in most japanese performance cars from the old datsuns to the new STI and 350z. The r160s(160mm gear) are in lightweight cars, the 180s in cars like the STI and Maximas, and then the r200 in cars like the 300zx TT, Skylines, ect. Most of these came as open diffs or Viscous LSDs, but a few came with clutchpacks. The good thing is that the LSD's will swap into almost any generic case. This means you just need to find one with the gear ratio you want. The 200SX was a rare exception of a r200 diff that came with 4.11 gears. People have put these clutch LSD's in that diff and come up with a bullet proof diff that puts up with lsX swaps..

from what i understand, the Skyline also comes 4.11 as that is what USP is using in their drag S4....

Yes, the r33 came with one, though it is a Viscous LSD. I imagine that USP welded it so it is effectively a locked like ours.

Hank, I've been pretty swamped but still watching. Sorry to hear about the Tranny but the car sounds like a beast. Cant wait to see what she does once broken in and with a new Transmission. Keep it up.

They're all Fuji diffs.

The front diffs on older 4WD Datsun pickups fit the bill too. So do Q45s.

There is also the R230 out of (I'm told) the Armada.

1984-1988 200SXs came with both R180 and R200 4.11 diffs. The Turbo (and maybe V6) came with the R200, and the 4cyl NA came with the R180.

It looks like you've already been there, but hybridz.org is your friend for this kind of stuff.

Thanks Brady. Isn't the rear diff in the q45 a vlsd?

The turbo 200sx appears to be the winner if I do go that route. I need to make sure the clutch packs are readily available and that they will handle 600wtq in reasonable service intervals.

The wavetrac diff is Spendy at 1300$ but a mechanical diff that doesn't go open when a tire lifts sounds nice! I wish they locked on decel as well but I suppose it is a tradeoff.

Here is a picture of hte last narrow 01e that was in my URQ before I went to the 6 speed. This was a low mile narrow that sounded great the day I put it in. It lasted about 1500 miles of abuse and road racing at the track before the 1-2 collar went. This just gives an idea as to why the wide 1st is prefered for high hp cars being launched in 1st...

Cryo helps but there is only so much you can do with stock pieces. Jason @ AMD has had a few cars putting 700+ torque at the wheels which will destroy first gear in 3 launches or less. Generally if I hear 600+ wheel torque and hard launches on the same sentence it's time to go with an improved straight cut first gear, but then that doubles the cost of the transmission.

Brent, I sent you a TXT...

Peter, in my life, I have traveled a total of 2 miles down the drag strip.. Road racing is far more fun and exciting for me. I was converted long ago!! BTW, the new Porsche 996tt calipers over 2 piece rotors is the bees knees. The ol car hauls down in a hurry. My only complaint is the epic fail of having those pads with white wheels, but I am already over that!!

Also Scott, with the torsen front and torsen center, should I be nervous about the extra heat that it will create? Perhaps I should look into cooling the trans..

Anybody think a triple torsen drivertrain is a bad idea? :)
