The orings are easy to replace(BTDT, hp24a c5S6), just hope thats all thats wrong.

01V is 5hp19fla
01L is 5hp24fla

you have 5hp24fla due to the 4.2, hence 01L

If you have any questions while you are building it, feel free to PM. I have had many of these on the bench, I also have a built 01V in my A6 that was built by IPT, then disassembled and further built by me. It is handling a good bit of torque so far >500ft lbs.

Thats what i was assuming. the for the 01L and 01V. so i do know for CERTAIN now, i need to get the 01L rebuild kit. the only question i have left,

Is there a difference in trans for the 3 letter part of the code. you say FLA but mine says FBC

The trans itself by ZF nomenclature is 5HP24FLA which signifies that it is quattro. FBC is the Audi code for the configuration, this is necessary to know to insure sensors and such are correct, but the hard parts are common between all 5HP24FLA models.

Thanks a TON Paracaidista, Finally understand exactly what all the numbers/letters stand for. You know where i can get a decent price torque converter? the places we've checked so far, you send yours in then they rebuild and send back. i need the parts to be in oregon when i head back up.

Time to order parts then :D

i paid almost $2500 for mine to be rebuilt in my C5 4.2L A6.

and the bummer is if i knew it would have been just a couple hundo more (actually lots less because i already have the 01E trans's) i would have done manual.

and i would do manual now, but then i have a rebuilt Tip trans that i couldnt get 1/3 of what i have into it if i sold it. soooo, auto it stays.

Whatever you do, get one with the stock stall and modded seal. I think Scott might be able to help you out, give him a call first. If he can't help, I may have a core in the States, but I would have to find out exactly where it is, and then find someone to ship it.

To clarify 5HP24 is RWD, 5HP24A is correct for the quattro version, mea culpa. The FLA is for the 5HP19 which can be found in many more configurations (Front engine-rear drive a la BMW (5HP19), front engine-AWD a la Audi,VW(5HP19FLA), mid-engine rear drive a la porsche (5HPFL- also VW Audi FWD), rear engine-rear drive a la porsche (5HP19HL), rear engine-AWD a la Porsche (5HP19HLA). Some drums from the 5HP24 will fit the 5HP24A, so you could check to see if there is one that holds more clutches from a different application, maybe BMW 750il. I once had 4 different versions of the 5HP19 apart, and was very surprised to see the various differences in the drums.

I was surprised at how easy the clutch packs come out and the trans comes apart. Removal and reinstalling is much much worse. Cant wait to see what its like to remove one from an rs6 w turbos in the way!

So I've got the exhaust, front drive shafts off. How difficult is it to remove the trans without moving the motor/main subframe?

When you are ready to put her back in, connect the shift cable before final positioning. It makes things easier. It can be a PITA if you leave it until the end.

I dont know if its the same but I have a 5HP24 from an 02 RS6 with torque converter taking up space in my storage unit. If you want it $750+ shipping.

thats not a bad deal timmy. the only thing i worry about with a used trans, is you dont know how long until it ends up in the same state mine is. when i get to learn about the trans in the process and spend about $600 for everything, that might be a bit more worth it (to me personally).

I am interested in the torque converter if you werent attached to it. I'm still just searching for a new/reman converter.

careful reinstalling the torque converter..should hear a series of 3 clicks, then its in.

HELP NEEDED ASAP

HEY, guys i'm in need of some help ASAP. this tranny needs to be back together and IN THE CAR by saturday.

I'm having issues getting the Oil pump off from the front/bell housing portion on the Trans. The Repair Manual shows a REAR wheel drive 5hp24 so we're trying to see if i'm missing something or not.

This is how it sits currently

OIL PUMP with all surrounding bolts removed (assuming those black things are just plugs cause front drive shaft runs through there)

So far i've put vice grips on both sides and tried yanking and pulling with no luck. (guy removing one from a 5hp19 Rear Wheel drive just slid his right out) So i took the vice grips clamped down SUPER hard on one side then using a slide hammer was trying to pop an edge/side loose. with no luck

This is from the REAR with gear box removed. there are some torx bolts going around. but from exploded views (REAR WHEEL DRIVE) it shows that those dont need to come out to remove the pump.

The problem is those rear torx bolts are wanting to strip VERY easily and already broken a flat head screw driver trying to get that bearing out to reach the other torx bolts.

SOO, DO I NEED TO REMOVE THOSE REAR TORX OR JUST SLIDE HAMMER THE PUMP HARDER? any diagrams, videos, exploded versions of the AWD 5hp24 would be great (if there are any)

IIRC, behind the rubber plugs, are bolts. You need to pull the tube for the diff shaft to see them.

He's got that handled now. He just pulled the A-clutch drum out and it's completely fubar'd. :(

So last question is can anybody confirm this specific clutch drum and part number. The bottom right and pictures above. I believe it's the A-clutch.
