What is the spacer looking piece under your strut?

It is a spacer for the shorter strut.

But wasn't the strut tube shortened? So how much short of a strut is that?

Strut tube was not shortened.

The strut is a koni 8611 1257. About 2 inches shorter. Taking 2 inches out of the housing is too much and the strut is almost all the way extended at a low ride height. So there isn't enough travel. The 8611 1259 is longer and may work but I used a part that has been used before to try and keep.this.aspect of it simple.

What are the benefits of this over the oem style koni insert? If i am thinking right using this shorter strut would reduce the travel by 2 inches.

It is external double adjustable and valved for higher spring rates than the Sports. There is an 8611-1259 that is longer but I won't need more travel than the 1257 can provide.

I am having Koni make a double external adjustable 80 series for the rear with a coilover sleeve so the upper mount won't be an issue like on all of there coilover race shocks. Not 100% yet but the order is in, I will check back in with them when they reopen after the holidays.

Very nice Dan :)

And who do you have to know at koni to get them to make you those spiffy special shocks?

I explained my situation and they offered to modify the shock they made for this vehicle. All I have to do is pay ;)

That's pretty cool. That possibly gives them another product to market.

I was inquiring about the 8212 series coilovers and they have to be made, same lead time (8 weeks) as these and about the same price but these will bolt in.

They cost the same as the rusty S4 I bought and parted so I doubt they would sell very many ;)

Very cool indeed, but not the price, that's not cool at all lol.

Not cool, but I want to do it right and only once!

hopefully ;)

Good shocks/struts are stoopid expensive.

Custom Koni 80 series rear shocks. Double external adjustable, valved for 500lb springs with a 2.5" threaded coilover sleeve and perch. Should fit and not require a custom top mount like most all of the other good coilover shocks I could find. Need to drill holes up top for adjustment though.

Hey Dan, do you know the part number for the Rs2 rear trap bushings you used? I'm gonna need some soon and I know of others that want to replace that bushing.

Had some time to actually do something. Got the rear coilovers pretty much sorted out and most of the rear suspension and diff in place. Still waiting on new fasteners for all the torque to yield parts. Nice to have fresh painted parts installed.

Holes in trunk floor for adjustment. They will get cleaned up and plugged.

Cut bottom of upper mount so the spring tophat would fit better.

looks good. I did the exact same thing as you on the rear upper mount

You actually have that backwards, I looked over your posts and that seemed like a good idea so I copied it. Did you use the thick OE washer on the shock shaft that the top hat sits on ?

Ah, I didn't remember posting about it :)

You don't need that thick washer unless the diameter of your shock is small enough to fit through the top hat. Although, it does create a bit larger seating surface for the soft aluminum

I didn't do that to mine when I had my rears apart in the essence of time and having a dead grinder, but I'll be doing that next time I have it apart.
Lookin real good dude!

I made a collar to keep the top hat centered as it is bigger than the shaft but not big enough to go over the step. I will leave the washer for more surface area. You had the upper mount info in a QW post.

Thanks Phil! That trans will come out someday lol, I'll bring it to Dans for the drive if you want.
