lol...whew! you thought the dealer had one of the tensioner dealies you just made from scratch? My mind said no effing way, man. LOL. Pretty cool and innovative stuff you got there though.

ah, I see. The goal was to change tension without loosening the water pump. I thought you just couldn't get the 20v backing plate.. since they are different than the 20v backing plates.. Nevermind then

Sorry I just have to say, god that's sexy! With all that red in there, maybe it's just the spring talking, but does that make anyone else want to hump something? :tard: LOL :-D

whew, yes i used my 7a backing plate but added a hole in it for my new tensioner and just had to be anal and seal it up nice. thought you were going to say you found a timing belt to work. after me going through about 400 gates part numbers i was kind of hoping i had not missed one.

well, it is coming slowly but surely. it is going well, just slowly. i am happy with everything though. it is turning out really neat. always a lot of distractions. my digital cammera moved out but i may find another one  my target date for starting is aug 19th because my audi is blocking another car of mine that i want to rally cross on the 19th.
i started my IIc / mod mc2 short block/7a head CQ

i did not make my aug 19th date for starting so i could relax and i did some of the other small things, and well, it was just time to start it, so i did. i did not run it for long because of the lack of coolant. start-up went well. :woowoo:
few more things before i rip it down the road. i will have to get some more pics going.

There is a dealer solution for the timing belt. The aan/aby/Adu engine came with an adjustable idle pulley.

an update. the only thing i was worried about with this build was the car being too sluggish off of boost.... not a problem. i am sure the low, close gearing and it being lighter weight than a big bodied audi all help. the ENGINE AND TURBO ARE A GREAT COMBO. this car is much better than a 5ktq which is where i pretty much draw the line. so, in summation i have a very strong bottom end that is stronger in some ways than the high dollar combos folks are building. :woowoo:

FYI...in messing with mine, i think i found a mistake regarding the sensitivity adjustment of the apc unit. AFAIK, COUNTER CLOCK-WISE IS MORE SENSITIVE......so, for the record....
