So with two CQs here I have a few decisions moving forward...
Lights/Hood:
• B3 or B4 (hood & lights)
• If B3 H1/H4s or 2 pc 'Euro's
I think I like the H&Rs but I don't think the OEish dampers are well suited so:
• Pirate the dual adjustable Konis(?) from the 1990
• BBSEs & Promounts with urS Bilsteins
Of course this is a tradeoff of convenience since either way I'll need a set of dampers.
Management
• Ic
• IIc
• Another SEMS
• Motronic (I know a guy doing some crazy stuff with it)
Again, tradeoffs. I'd have to go back to T3-60 of the 1990 to run the chip tune. The IIc is not free. The other unit is less cash with few disadvantages. The Motronic will require an ABY harness (or, maybe an adapter loom) and does not have much support. The final goal is an 'easy'/reliable driver.
I've also been thinking about lighter wheels but really like the grip of the 245s so that will be below boost on the list.
I really need to take the time to make mounts for my 944 seats so I can fit in the car with a helmet.
Finally, I really hope to paint the bumpers and get it as perfect as I can without a full tear down and respray (unnecessary).

Koni's. Motronic, daily, it just makes sense. Why must you go back to the T3-60? B3 hood AND RS2's??? (one of my faves) TOP PRIORITY, IMHO......make the seat brackets. On bumpers, dupont paint....get a photo match paint mixed up and shoot it yourself, pull the bumpers to paint......easy peasy, lemon squeezy bring to Dubs Along The Rockies autoX!

I guess I was a little vague, if I put the Ic in the 91 I'll have to go back to the T3-60 in the 1990 to run the 034 beta tune chip.
The motronic idea is more like the WAR chip than a tune and would be the more experimental of the choices (ABY harness, I5t ecu).
The B3 hood and RS2s is nice but I'm not 100% on it. The hood is easy to swap though. Regardless I need to paint a hood (the on on it is beat).
I'd like to test a BBSE'd CQ to see how it is, from the way Mance talkes the urS bilsteins are perfect for the CQ.

What's this about UrS bilsteins for a CQ? What is the advantage over Bilsteins for a 90/CQ?

So you have to modify the front struts to fit them (search quattroworld for BBSE) but the advantage is that the piston DIA is larger and they are more disirablely valved for performance in a lighter car.

I cannot express how tempting it is to rob the turbo stuff from my 1990 for this car! Sure it would devalue the 1990 and I would eventually need to swap manifolds to fit a Holset but I know my T3/T4 has headroom, especially with intercooling. I'd like more GPOs but would it be difficult to flip my Ic?
I have a soft offer on the 1990's coilovers with stock cores so maybe I return it to stock. I really hate to do work twice but I did not think it would take so long to get moving.

If I was going to do a track only car I'm not sure it would be a CQ (gutted B4 maybe). Either way, after DDing a 7at for so long I'd prefer at least some boost in order to be faster than a minivan.

Id move all the go fast stuff over and keep the other one as a parts car... You know your going to need it LOL
Take care of the little nagging issues like the cracked exhaust mani and run it till the snail lets go and move up to a slightly bigger one..

I can't even imagine what it would be like daily-driving a stock 7A-anything at 5000+ feet altitude lol I'd slit my wrists.

Yeah, a 6er will fix the manifold and I don't think the T3 turbine will be a restriction for a bit. I'd need a new harness adapter for the Ic.

I did it for years with my old '91, even drove to Glen Cove for the PPIHC back when Hank's ur was nearly stock! 99% of my driving is just around town to work so its not
that bad but I'm used to >minivan torks

If you are looking to run the Motronic ECU from something like an UrS4/S6 or an S2/RS2, there should be support of a certain form soon, I hope... I will keep you posted.

The pisser is that this is really a space issue, if I had a spot that was out of the way for the 1990 it would be easier to say "f it let's keep both and build the spare 7a to end up with two CQts down the road".

How about "Build a monster keep a 7at"? Honestly, the CQ should have come with ~25% more power; wait it's called an S2! It is really a huge difference.
My goal for the summer is 350MHAWHP which I think the T3/T4 could do. Silly that I just sent a WBO2 back to Marc in preperation for greater things; if I start swapping parts I'll need it back.

Yeah, all chat aside I have a CQ so that I don't need two cars. If I was going to go that route I'd do something larger and a Porsche or Smyth Diesel Coupe. I'd like to think that I'll always keep an I5 in the garage for fun.
We have been talking about moving to a more rural area in the next few years which will mean I'll be looking for a TDI to commute in; the question is what chassis will the TDI be in.

Thanks! I'm not sure it will stay B3 but it's much better than the USDM stuff.

I started a thread on tdiclub.com about possibilities of getting a 2.5TDI in the states for swapping purposes. It's just too damn expensive, thinking about 5k for a complete engine out of a Crafter, that's just too rich for my blood.
Good news though, the V6 TDi's should start popping up in junkyards pretty soon now that the Q7 and Toureg's have them over here.

It's a better engine all around, but it's not a 5-cylinder. :(
