Like I said in the other thread, with a balanced bottom end, cruising around at 4500 is natural and clean. It is kind of like driving around a sport bike, where "put put" at 6000rpm is not a big deal. Now I notice it. I am sure my fuel economy has gone up as I am aware of the extra vibration. There are two sets of resonants from my butt butt dyno, without any math or real live data. It feels like there is a bit of a vibration at 3600, and another at around 6800. I am still reving to 8500, and it still makes a silly amount of power at that level. I am using an adjustable cam gear now, and 4 degree's of retard flows a stupid amount more of air. Javad back in the day picked up 63whp by retarding the cam timing 4 degrees( from ~485whp to ~543). I feel like I did the same thing. Put it this way
Put it this way, if I were to take the engine out again and had the time, I would take it apart to balance it. For the 250$, it is a hell of a mod that makes the car feel so much more refined. Remember how smooth the 20v felt after coming from the 20v? Kindof like that.
On another note, I am using an adjustable cam gear now, and 4 degree's of retard flows a stupid amount more of air. Javad back in the day picked up 63whp by retarding the cam timing 4 degrees( from ~485whp to ~543). I feel like I did the same thing. Put it this way, with the cam timing at tdc, I could run 90% duty cycle on the injectors at 34psi with ~1400cc injectors. With the cam timing retarded 4 degrees, 90%DC occurs at 28psi. A ton more air is getting in and out of the motor with the retard. I recommend the mod to anybody as long as the turbo still has enough in it(reading jimmy??)
Hey Hank
Way to go gettin her back on the road again. Wait a minute, oh nevah mind. Anyway, I've also got the 034 cam adjustable gear and when Tufty and Brendan were playing around with it there was no perceivable difference whether they went advance or retard with it. Tufty attributes this to the high lift and duration of my custom cams. I also plotted my boost against your graph and you've got me beat by 800 rpm. I don't get to 26 lbs until 4800 rpm. I'm also putting out something on the order of 587 ft/lbs at that same rpm. Can you say, " Freight Train!". Well, congratulations once again. BTW, I'm taking the Monster out today to see if I can find some poor fella in a Super Car.

Peter, I am just nippin at your heels

It's funny
So you like the adjustable cam huh? I will get one on the way..
Was that boost profile with the cam retarded?

Yeah, it is with the cam retarded 4 degrees. In theory, retarding it like that should shift the powerband up in the rpm range. I didn't notice that at all, but the top end is rediculous.
I do like the cam gear, and I sleep better at night knowing that my 200k miles, taken off a half a dozen times with an impact, key way on the cam gear is new, and not possibly fractured. For the 100-160 dollars new(depending on where you guy them from), it is hard to beat.

First of all that's a beauuutiful family you've got there. Second of all, I can't explain it other than these are some special cams.
Here's my crew. From the left is our youngest daughter, my wife of 43 years, #1 grandson, my 87 year old mom, #3 gs, #2 gs, son-in-law, oldest daughter and yours truly.

that boost graph is with the cams retarded? nice response for a turbo that flows well. a little rs2 would not have much on you for response and you would leave that little bugger in your wake very soon after. now that i see my combo is not too horrible off of boost i am shopping around for a larger turbo myself. re: cams I always figured that it would work well to play it safe and up the lift and duration a mild amount and then do some mods to be able to dial in the overlap. For me 7acams will probably be best because my tractor bottom end is not going to feel too warm and fuzzy above 7k. BTW nice family pics you guys.

I had two in the same minute

I almost feel bad for you, however you only had to deal with nine continuous months of pregnant wife. Boys/Girls?
I can only imagine the hell of having a infant and a pregnant wife.
Mine are ~3 and ~8 months, all girls... since we are cluttering up this page...

AFA tech, my cam chain is a bit loose; am I making more power or just retarded?

One last piece of information for the record... Narrow 01e's are maybe not as strong on the 1st gear as i had hoped. Granted, I am dropping the clutch and doing plenty of hard launches on the poor gear, but if my 2600 pound car can't put up with it, chances are that a heavier car would do even worse. The transmission has about 2k miles on it, and started out quiet in 1st. It is pretty whiny in first gear, and it gets worse with every launch. All the other cars are good though!!

Hank Congratulations to you and your wife on the arrival of your baby.
It's a life changing event for sure.
I can't believe the amount of dedication and passion you have for your urq.......it reminds me of myself.
Thanks for sharing all your information, I'm sure it will help others, I know it helps me for sure.
Great work.

Tele... but of course.. I must confess I do dip my knee slightly, dash through the trees like a fairy and skim the bumps..
And.. I'll NEVER put Alipine boot on my feet ever again in my life ...
In my book I don't care what you ride or ski on so long as the crew consists of wagging tales, acting like 13 year olds and enjoying coughing on powder..
If anyone is up for a local's day in CO I'm game..
I'm also planning on an Alta weekend in Feb too..
My choices are: M.J., Jones Pass, Berthoud or Steamboat...
Up for a day?

I'd say yes but I've not been for over a season. I'm going to sneak up to Eldora one of these week days. I started Alpine ~84 then boarding (first lesson at Breck before snowboard boots were a thing lol the rentals were Sorels) then Tele in like '04 or 05.
I think this thread needs a vid or Dyno chart to get back on track.

Long story short, a early morning fuel pump exchange allowed me to step on the dyno today, but there were other fueling problems I need to sort out. It was a good baseline. I need to take out a bunch of fuel in order to make more power at the current 30psi, and to allow me to have extra fuel to bump up to ~35psi with these injectors.

518whp/460wtq... Pretty happy, considering the tune. I only had 3 pulls due to scheduling, and I talked them into a 4th. I was adding timing, and taking away fuel each run and making 20whp each time. I think I left about 70whp on the table. That is a shame because it would have been the record on this dyno for an awd car. b7 Rs4's made 299.5whp and 279whp for comparison with one stock and the other with bolt on stuffs.
I dont know why they did not include rpm anywhere, but to save on duty cycle up top, I limited our fun to 7700. Looks like it would keep making power to 8500 though!!
