I should be hauling ass this weekend. Had to explain to the local part place that yes, the MC2 pistons ARE higher compression despite the typo on AudiWorld. I can not wait to drive around with THE CAM again. The port work work should compliment it nicely too

Nice, looking forward to results. Nice porting work, my car has similar port work and it runs pretty damn good.

Got the Bottom End, Windage Tray, Oil Pan, and Subframe all mounted up tonight. Crank turns smooth but firm with new bearings. I believe it to feel like it did before I put new bearings in except a little bit tougher but by no means hard. I can turn it by hand with a little bit of force. I think the new rings may have something to do with that too. Torqued it correctly so don't see how I could have screwed anything up. MADE DOUBLE SURE the caps werent on backwards. Perhaps its just the super thick assembly lube I used too

You are sure the caps are not only not backwards but are in there original places, not mixed up?

Yes I was extremely anal about checking them. Did one piston at a time and never once did I seperate the caps from the rods. All VW-Audi emblems on the rods face the rear of the block
I can turn it over by hand with a fair amount of force and a 1/2" ratchet turns it fairly easy. No binding. Im guessing the pistons and rings are a tight fit until they are broken in. I gapped them all and were withen specs so I didnt bother filing them. One cylinder was about .003" tighter though compared to the rest. Average ring gap was about .015"-.017"

Lots of good news! Car is back up and driving. This is the first turbocharged engine Ive rebuilt (2nd in my lifetime) and its pretty cool how it keeps getting more and more AND MORE power as the rings break in. Overall boost started at about 11-12. I cranked down the WG spring and boost went up to 13. The it went to 14, and then started doing boost cut again as it climbed past 15. There is less blowby now than before. The car is quieter, incredibly smoother, and runs absolutely awesome. Has a super nice lumpy idle that shakes the car a little bit but that might change when I tune it. It fires right up in the morning but still has the weird no start after it sits for 20+ minutes. It was doing that before but it takes longer for it to fire up, probly due to the cam and/or rings. It will fire right up after repeat crankings. Just annoying as hell.
Gotta bleed clutch this week. Gave me trouble tonight that almost stranded me

The car makes too much boost omg. I keep Backing the WG off but as the rings seat, it continues to make more and more power. Guess that porting and ceramic coating are doing their jobs

I had thought about doing te whole ceramic coating thing, but couldn't find anyone local that Dr it.

I should probably note that Im now encountering surge even at about 12-13psi with the K24. Guess its time for a bigger turbo

Or a higher flowing head with twice as many valves...
Nice work on getting back up and running so quickly.

NEED HELP GUYS. Having a real doozy of an issue and it's now to the point where I am insanely pissed off at not figuring out what the hell is wrong.
I am not getting spark. I have swapped ECMS, tested coil, hall sensor, crank, rpm sensors. I have swapped sparkplugs, coils, ECM, and distributors. Everything checks out fine. There is power to the coil and has proper voltage during cranking. I have no fiddle sticking idea wtf is wrong.
I had a short from the CSV power wire beginning of the week, no fuses were blown but it did take out the ignition switch which I have replaced.
Does ANYONE have any suggestions for me to try. I need to get the car running.

Couple thoughts, do you have power to the coil while cranking? Has anything specifically changed in the past week? Do you have fuel pressure?

It's not unheard of to lose a timing pin out of a 20vt flywheel...
Is the distributor set correctly? How do the wires inside the distributor for the hall sender look?

Yes there is fuel pressure. All wires look good. Ill check power while cranking today. Would a bad fuel pump relay create a no spark condition

I swear to God this car hates me with a passion for some reason. I also think it may very well be cursed. I figured out the no spark issue, got it running, and started driving it again.
Then on my way home, I hear a small "poof" and the car dies..............great. Now heres the interesting part. I went to crank the engine over and I get that electric motor sound as if there is no compression in the engine. Then I noticed that none of the pulleys are moving. No cam pulley, power steering pulley, no nothing was rotating....ok WTF. However if I put the car in gear, the starter would move the car. Now WTF is going on?! Did I just lose the flywheel somehow!? That still doesnt explain WHY the car died....
So we tow it back to my garage unit, after it's been down for ANOTHER week...and start performing test. I rotate engine by hand...it's not seized....ok thats a good thing, just means I dont gotta tear the bottom end apart again....but now get this...I have my buddy turn the starter over AND EVERYTHING STARTS MOVING AGAIN!?!! O M G.....timing was somehow out of time....redid timing, took compression test, 0 COMPRESSION ON ALL 5 CYLINDERS. Guess who has to fix MORE FUCKING BENT VALVES??? I have a strong feeling the crank woodruff key found a way to shear itself off. That would explain why nothing was moving till I found a way to wedge it back into shape or whatever and then maintained the connection while it was being turned over.
FUCK
Im really honestly at a lost at what I want to do at this point. On one hand, I have a ton of time and money, and a lot of creative things on the car. On the other hand, I really need a solid good MPG DD. I've been really wanting a TDI Jetta for a while now. I do 600+ miles a WEEK, and now I get to drive the 15mpg Hot Rod pickup EVEN MORE which will drain me even FASTER NOW. I don't think I'll bring myself to selling the car, but it's sure as hell starting to look like an option. TALK ME OUT OF IT
