Thank you sir! I should have to 044 here this weekend and up goes the boost. Have you had your pump out? Hard to get at?

Oh yeah I meant to reply about that on S2forum. Its not bad at all if you have wrenching skill which you obviously do. You just get the cover off (make sure to have a chisel so you can turn the top plate) and then you just have to reach down and grab the basket with your hand and twist (I think counter-clockwise). Thats is really. You have to twist pretty hard though.

very easy to get at the 200 pump.

Sounds just like the same setup that's in my B5 then.... I shouldn't have an issue then. Hell, I should just steal the 044 from my B5 temporarily, lol. Under the carpet in the trunk I'm guessing?

I guess I'll just have to drive it to work the next two days and get the tank close to empty. I'm hoping my fuel pump housing is the one that allows the 044 to drop right in.

It should be. I pulled one out of my car and one out of a V8q and they were identical. Look identical to an 044 pump too except not inline.

I'm really hoping I've just got a weak 040 because 040's and 044's should flow very similar amounts if I remember correctly. If that doesn't solve the issue I'll check the voltage at the pump and relay if needed.
Side note, my voltage seems a bit low at around 12.8v (headlights off) and 12.3 (headlights on). I've got an after market POS 90amp in there but it has been tested and the store claims it's output is correct. Do I need a higher amperage one? I'm used to seeing cars with the voltage around 14.1-14.3ish.

Yeah...mine is definitely around 14 with the car on.
About the pumps, they do flow similarly on the spec sheets (80 Gph), but I don't think some people realize that the 040 is at 6.5 bar and the 044 is at 5 bar. Thus, the 044 flows much more at any given fuel pressure.

Do you know if you have the 90amp, 120 or 150? I think there were options.
Here's the specs I saw for the pumps:
Bosch 040 Fuel Pump Specs:
Bosch Part Number: 0580254040
Minimum Current: 12 Volts
Operating Pressure: 94 PSI (6.5 Bar)
Minimum Flow @ Outlet: 80 GPH (300 LPH)
Fuel Pump Location: In Tank
Bosch 044 Fuel Pump Specs:
Bosch Part Number: 0580254044
Minimum Current: 12 Volts
Operating Pressure: 72.5 PSI (5 Bar)
Minimum Flow @ Outlet: 80 GPH (300 LPH)
Fuel Pump Location: In-Line
I'm just kind of surprised I'm running out of fuel already unless cleaning the pressure regulator in parts cleaner damaged it in some way.

yea, you really shouldn't be out of fuel yet. Maybe the diaphragm got torn on your regulator? does it hold vacuum at the nipple?

That's kind of what I thought too. I'll have to check out the regulator or just pick up another one.

Where have ya been man?? In all honesty this all came together very quick which was really nice. From the day I started taking it apart to replace the broken transmission to the day I was driving it again with all sorts of fantastic new parts was exactly three weeks. A nice bonus at work/tax return came at a perfect time

. So far I am VERY happy with the way everything has turned out.
Still not done of course. Waiting on my Garrett IC core to come (8-10 weeks!) and will have to build some custom end tanks for that on top of this slight fueling issue. Should be perfect by spring.

90amp alternator seems small for the power options these cars came with doesn't it? I think the CQs have 110amp... Does your car have heated seats?

Yup. Cold weather package with heated seats, mirrors and defroster.

I have no idea what my alt. is. I thought they were all the same (stock), but I guess I thought wrongly.

200 20vt's came with 110 amp alternators.
same with CQ's
and I think 90 20v's
AFAIK 90 amp alts came on anything else....
