I think I am going to point at the CPS again... but I guess I will check the firewall and all that.
Reason I'm pointing at the CPS again is: this morning, fired the car up to go to work, and I checked to see if it would die out at 4krpm again. Nope, it was good past 5k! So I took off and went to my mother in law's to check out a sump pump problem, then carried onto work. As I tried to get on it on the highway it f'ed up again. So fine when cold, crap when hot. I'm thinking CPS or some other sensor as it heats up. I know the car won't run without the CPS so I think when it dies out at higher RPM the whole ignition system goes weeehoooo. AND these sensors that I'm swapping in are of unknown age/mileage.
Really the only thing that I'm changing is the CPSs. The first one just flat out died and then the car wouldn't start. When it cooled off enough it started again (typical CPS problem). Then I swapped in a known (unknown to me at the time) bad one and it was all crazy with trigger errors at high/low load and rpm (not typical for AAN because the AAN on MOTRONIC only uses the CPS to start, but my VEMS setup uses it as a secondary trigger all the time). Then I swapped in a "good" one, and it was fine for a bit, but then died with usage, but only at high RPMs (also not a typical CPS failure but again, my VEMS is setup differently than an AAN on Motronic).
I have one last sensor to try but I'm almost thinking I'm just going to buy a new one and not have to change it twice.
Had no idea it is used that way with vems (Rainbows) The more you know! Are you going to be going with an OEM sensor or an ebay black cable?

OEM Bosch. 200 shipped. Spendy but worth it. I'll do replacements from Marc after this new one.

And! I tested it again today. I dropped in at my bosses to get some keys and started it up. Free revving while cold, 7k is no problem. I only did it once since revving the shit out of a cold engine ain't great, but i'm nearly positive it's the cps.

I have OEM bosch for less than that on my site.

Da fq!
Lol all I noticed was the sensor, derp.
It was 170, then shipping which was only 5 bucks, but f'n tax because it was in Canada. Plus the exchange rate right now probably woulda made it a draw!
Oh well. I'll have it for Carlisle and make it down and back (hopefully). I woulda supported you if I knew Marc, sorry bud. Email incoming.

Actually that makes me think it might be moisture related as we've had nice weather these last few days. Regardless I'm swapping it out.

Well that's too bad. I was really hoping my intercooler would show up for the trip but it looks like it won't arrive until next week. Oh well, severely reduced timing ftw.
To do list tomorrow:
Oil change
Check all suspension/drive line
Install new stereo
Install new cam position sensor
Vacuum interior
If I have time, launch control switch
Skid be pretty easily accomplishable in an evening methinks.
See y'all at Carlisle!!!

Just aim nitrous nozzles at your current intercooler. Just don't breath when spraying.

From your list I've completed the Oil Change, H&R spring swap, and launch control switch... And currently adding some audio goodies...

How long did LC take you? From Marc's instructions I don't think it should be long at all. I also need to find a way to strap my sub down because it slides all over the place. And stereo as in head unit.

I had the worst dream last night. At Carlisle someone stole my front and rear bumpers with my license plates and screwed with my intercooler. Dad played dumb and I was so mad. Then I found out you guys were meeting with me. Anyway... I woke up traumatized lol

I followed no one's instructions... Grabbed a switch, grounded one leg, wired the other to VEMS, done... I used this one... I still need to wire up illumination to it...

Well, that's not really "done"....you need to wire it to the clutch switch with a relay if you want to actually use it

Well the ABS switch isn't an on /off switch, it's a momentary switch. So he just needs to hold it down to activate LC and let off of the switch to turn it off. If it was a simple on/off then I'd say the clutch switch would be a good idea.

Push button launch control… why do we not live 20 minutes away from each other again?

Momentary or on/off makes no difference, you still have to "flip" a switch. That is a terrible way of doing it if you actually want to launch the car. It's not practical to have one hand on the dash, plus you would have to get the timing perfect to do it well. If you just want to shoot flames (which we all love to do), then having a switch is fine.
If you actually want to launch the car, the ideal setup, IMO, is to have a master switch that engages the launch control (power to the relay), and the switch on the clutch pedal. That makes the disengaging of the LC perfect every time and all you have to worry about is shifting and steering.

Not disagreeing. But if he plans to have his hand on the dash like implied then I feel like the extra wiring to the clutch pedal is not worth the effort.
the most ideal setup is like what you described.
Unless the ABS switches in c4's and 200's are on/off? I can't remember?

I've wanted to repurpose the cruise control stalk for LC & ALS for a while. Would be pretty cool to do it and re-label the stalk B) You'd still want the clutch switch to free up hands.

The ABS switches are ON/OFF in my 1991 Audi 200 - I used it this morning on the way to work!

Yup ON & OFF, I have no issues getting perfect launches... not really sure how hard it is to "actually" use...
Stage=press button
Tree Lights up= Push in and Hold, Gas pedal Floored
Green= Release both switch and clutch
Works perfectly for me, WITHOUT needing to wire anything to the clutch... Simplicity at it's best...

My bad. My 5k ABS switch is momentary.
