Let me catch you all up on this.

The workshop where I did all of the fabrication work on this car was a space I subleased from my father, who had a sizable shop space in Columbus. (Several members here can personally attest to the enormous volume of space I had available not only for welding and fabrication work but also for storage of multiple cars.

My father died unexpectedly on September 29, 2014. Apart from the grief of loss, this event threw my automotive life into a tailspin; I was forced to downsize aggressively and to clear out of a space I no longer could use. I threw away TONS of parts, sold what I could sell quickly, gave some stuff to some friends, begged some storage space, rented some other storage space, and put everything including this project in mothballs while I figured out my next move.

It turns out that my next move was to buy a house with a garage--something I had never enjoyed before. So, I found a house in my modest price range and closed on it on December 22, 2014. It needed, as far as I knew at the time, a kitchen remodel.

Within two days, the kitchen remodel had become a total gut job and a start from scratch including new everything. Within two weeks, the water main outside the basement wall had broken, requiring a horizontal drilling job and a contractor. Within a month, the water heater had died. The house required all available income and then some for the next year to make it livable.

2015: started teaching welding at a college.
December 2017: got married in Philippines and had to set aside money to bring wife to USA--a costly process, but well worth the effort.
June 2018: changed jobs, now in welding sales.
November 2018: Started working on the garage in order to make it a legitimate workshop. I have nearly finished electrical upgrades to include 200A separate service, vastly improved lighting, outlets everywhere I desire--all 20A, power for 60G air compressor. With some help from friends, I also built a storage floor in the "attic" space in order to clear floor space. I made it beefy enough to support my numerous spare transmissions and differentials and totes of VW and Audi parts that I could not bear to part with.

October 2018, I started getting back into the long-neglected Audi Fox Quattro project, with a few adjustments. Home ownership and marriage have reordered my priorities, and I need to wrap this up for as little as possible without cutting corners. The plan is to finish the car in a respectable way that satisfies my standards, enjoy it for a little while, then sell it and start a new project. I want to build more cars, and I have space to build one at a time. I also want to build something else in the near future that is fast and fun, but also not too radical to drive every day in decent weather if I want to.

As the car sits now, it is now a complete roller with the whole drivetrain installed including a new (very short) one-piece driveshaft.

Completely understand how life can reorganize one's priorities. Glad to hear you kept with it, this is one of those seminal projects that just *has to get done. Look forward to future updates.

Home garage is now a viable workshop, and I am working to clear out some older projects and other obligations in order to resume progress on the Fox.
