I was there last night. I only saw him run once before I left. He sounded awesome and even with major tire spin and a little bogging, he pulled a 12.6, didn't catch the trap speed. I let my cousin run my car, his very first drag race ever. His first run netted him a 14.5, he wasnt ready.... second run he dropped a second, 13.6 at 101 trap speed. We left after that so I don't know how he did, if hank got another run. I was only running about 18psi and 13deg advance, so I got a lot of room for improvement....

I have been uber busy lately, but I did make it out to the track last Friday night. The turnout in SLC is CRAZY! I waited 3 hours to do 2 pulls..... :wtf: The 1-2 syncro is pretty worn i this box, and both runs I was unable to get a clean 1-2 shift. Both run were around 1.9 60ft times, but the sorry 1-2 shift really hurt the times. I ran 12.45@ 125 and then 12.8@ 114 suffering from a lingering ignition problem. This venue is obviously not hte best for dialing in a good qurter mile time. I will go back in the next few weeks for a test and tune session to dial in the launch.

I am convinced that my serial port is buggered on my IIc. I have tried a half a dozen USB to Serial adapters and cables, and turned dwell down to very reasonable figures. I even played with foil around coils and wires to try and issolate. No bones. This meant that I did not have anti lag hooked up @ the track nor did I have the ability to log. Meh...

In other news, I did get an Enkei in for test fit. I need to order some tires for test fit, but it appears that the fronts will have a heck of a time fitting the 17x9.5" wheels I want to run. The rear swallows the same rim with ease, but the front's only chance is with rotated in arms, and a 265 max tire. Any more width, and I fear that I will have to extend the fenders a bit... Haydn!!!! :)

And the rear

Also, I have some 1600s in from Marc Swanson, but the connectors are the wrong type for my current plugs. I want to rewire my URQ bad, so I just may hold off on the injectors untill I redue the flying lead from 034 for the IIc.

I got a 245-40-17 mounted on the 17x9.5 tire for kicks. Who knew that Walmart dismounts tires for free? I knew they were going to be stretched, but this is unreal. The tire is a dunlop direzza sport z1, and check it out next to my current Hankook venus v12s. Both tires are 245-40-17s

Here it is mounted with no spacer in front. It needs atleast a 3mm spacer, and I will have to rotate the arms in atleast 6mm to get it to go. Haydn has all the cool parts, so I will probably hit him up for a rotating kit. Anyway

I am kindof debating bailing on the 9.5" in favor of the 9". I don't think there is a fighting chance to get 275s on this car, so I am likely stuck with 255s. The 255s probably will still be stretched pretty bad on the 9.5" where they would be at home on the 9" wide. The rear gobbles up the tires. I sortof want to get the 45mm offset version instead of the 35s I have now, but they are not the deep dish like the 35s, and I am not sure I like the look. It would be nice to get less track in the back and then space out the fronts.

Those Dunlops are known to run wide. Great tire too.

Don't go too wide on the wheel. You're just adding dead weight. Spend your money on the compound, not the width, huuuge difference, trust me. Keep the wheels same front to back so you can easily rotate them at events.

Wheels look great btw! It's pretty easy to rotate stock steering arms too.

That is what I am thinking. I want to redo my front fenders with a bit more arch. I have a piece of paint lifting from what appears to be a finger print on one of the fenders, and then a flaw on the other fender. Parts of me wants to pull a Haydn and extend them about an inch. If I did this, I could easily put 275s up front, and the rear will swallow them without any problem. The problem with the 275-40-17s is that they get to be a pretty large diameter. The URQ bodywork just wasn't meant for a 26" wheel.

My point is that if I do end up doing that( about 90% likely in the next year) then I will want the 9.5" wheels eventually. I would get the same offset, and just run spacers in front to get more track and keep it off of the tie rod.

Peter, did you just grind off the weld like you would do for the OEM perches for a coil over deal? I may get ambitious and do that after hours one of these days.

Oh, I picked up a set of 996tt calipers too. I really wanted the 996tt calipers bc they use a 32x330mm rotor oem. This is nice bc the selection fo a 1.25" outer rings is very large compared to the 28mm or 30mm that the regular 996 stuff is. I had a DE with the PCA this Saturday, but that is falling through. I'll make it out to Miller next week for a days session. Hopefully I'll have the 996 stuff on by then.

man Hank, those wheels look proper on the ur-q.... Can you not bump down the 275's to a 35 or 30 series to avoid the overall diameter issues? Sounds like you'd like to get to the point of 275's (which means you WILL get there; I mean look at your engine bay :) ) so maybe go with your gut and spring for the 9.5's?

Wheels and tires look menacing. I think you should keep the 35mm offset. Have you been driving it with these wheels and tires?

Negative. I only have the one tire mounted(the burnt one from the vr6 car) on the one 17x9.5 that I bought off ebay. Jim bought a single 17x9 wheel for fitment, so I am thinking we should trade so we both have what we want. I'll mount the tires on the fat fives next week in preparation for wide open wednesday and then Lap Battle over the weekend.

Peter, did you just grind off the weld like you would do for the OEM perches for a coil over deal?

Yep, pretty simple, although somewhat time-consuming as you don't want to grind through the tube. This way you can rotate and lower the arms slightly as well.

You can also cut a small slot in the arm, bend it inwards, re-weld and throw a gusset underneath for extra strength. Would be easier and faster, I think.

One thing I didn't do, and wish I did, is actually bolt the whole wheel/tire combo onto the hub, while attached to your strut(if 2 piece), and then position the arm where you need it with tie rod end attached as well.

Don't know all the details, but I think a dropped valve, which may have taken the turbo out, I'm sure he'll tear into it tonight.
