Question for the knowledgeable... type 44 Euro Headlights

Does anyone know if you can use the stainless trim from a American 200q 20v headlight that has the orange reflectors on a European headlight. I know that the actual European bucket is larger and you can not use the orange turn signal. (I have tried it on my last set) I know to make it work, you have to use the white reflector, but what I was wondering is... can I use my American trim, pop out the orange reflector, and install the thinner white reflector? The situation is that I found a set of Euro lights, but it does not have the reflectors and the stainless trim to hold the reflector to the bucket. I got a set of new European white reflectors and was curious if I could piece it together.

Yes the trim fits as it is the same. You can mod the amber corners to fit BTDT.

Thank You for the info. I don't have a set in front of me to experiment with. (American or European) It seemed like my last pair, that I was not able to use the amber turn signal with the European buckets because the amber turn signal was about an inch thick as compared to the white European reflector that was only about 5/8'' thick. The issue too was that the light bulb socket and wiring would hit the side of the bucket and not allow it to get close enough. I like the look of the white reflector anyway, so I will keep it. I feel more comfortable about buying a set of buckets without the reflectors now. From what you are saying... I can get my turn signal to squeeze in with the European headlight bucket, or I can just use my trim, pop out the thicker amber turn signal, and pop in a new thinner white reflector. I bought a set from Paul Fernandes (Custom Auto Craft)

For mounting the DOT amber corners with the euros you can A) cut part of the back off drill some holes and use zip ties or metal strapping to secure it or B) melt the back portion with the bulb holder carefully with a heat gun to deform it until it fits.

Damn! That sounds like you might have have a good idea on doing it or may have even tried it in the past. I'm in the middle of trying to buy a set from someone if he sends pictures... Been waiting for over a week now. I will post some pictures from the experiment. Thanks again for the info.

Are the euro lights very sought after? I have 6 or 7 spare sets but live a little bit far away.

They're fairly sought after, not as much as B2 or B3 euros due to the smaller number of T44s, but those who have them want the euro lights. DOT lights suck.

What's the advantage to the Euro over DOT?

They are VERY bright.

I had a small collection of lights for a while. I actually got them from Josh to tell the truth. lol.

The trims are the same, they all use the same trim clips and you should normally have a wiring harness made for the lights.

Haha exactly - the DOT headlights are straight up dangerous. The euro lights have a great cutoff and out perform most modern lights with halogens.

Is there a reason no one here runs HIDs in the T44?
I've been running them for over half a year now with no problems. It is a single bulb with no hi/lo difference other than throw.
I read that the wiring isn't made to support them, but the kit has it's own power and ground lines it utilizes off the terminals in the front of the car. So it only uses stock wiring for on/off signal.

On my 'low' beams I get flashed all the time. It's like having a mini sun attached to the front it is so incredibly bright.

the CQ i discovered has horrible headlights... the typ44 has horrible lights too...

shit id take some DEPO lights over the stock ones, but i am saving for the RS2 lights.

The biggest reason I am after them is that they open up the availability to make for a really cool, tricked out light. You can take the front lens off to add a projector, paint the inner reflector, L.E.D. running lights like the new Audi's. Nick has pioneered the upgrade for the Type 44 Euro. He has mounted a BiXenon projector inside and it looks bad ass. The issue is to grind and sand down the light diffuser ripples in the glass on the inside to make the glass lens clear to take advantage of the cool, updated look as well as see that defined light cut off line. Any they are much brighter and spread better. Only downfall... Super rare pieces, a little heavier, and a little bulkier. I have two complete Euro lights now and one brand new lens for the drivers side. I need a new passenger side and am willing to pay good money for whoever may have a new one. The Bosch part number is 1 305 620 852. 2Bennet has a new set and wants $2,400.00 for the set.
