yep. My wife really wants to go down the week before to see her family, but I wnat to cruise down with you guys. It is too bad the drag strips are not open on Friday night at midnight. That would be fun to dink around. They are every other week, and we are on the off week.

ah i see now about the bars, i would HIGHLY suggest keeping them, even more so if anyone else is *ever* in the car with you. being hit side on at high speeds is about the worst experience you can have WITH safety equipment, without i couldnt imagine being alive.

once you have a cage take EVERYTHING off the car safety wise except for the harness.

Europeans deemed them not needed.. What does the motorgeek crowd say? :)

Well, Germans at least don't even bother with tow or ramp trucks for accidents on the Autobahns.
Typically it's a flat bed with a crane. Which says something about what's left of the vehicle post accident.
What am I getting at? You will be driving a relatively powerful car with no roll cage and relatively minimum crash protection.- can you replace the heavy bars with something lighter that will still provide some additional protection in case you get T boned? Perhaps some large diameter Aluminum tubing?

:wtf: The towing at an Autobahn is done by normal companies that usually tow parking offences in cities all day long and since tow trucks have become pretty uncommon in those narrow german cities its why you see flatbed cranes on Autobahnen mostly nowadays.
Imagine towing a car with engaged steering lock out of a 90° parking lot on a street that is 3m wide which is normal in inner city residential zones.
revenge...:

However I agree on the outcome. You'll probably want as much protection as can be on a fast car. I wouldnt replace them until you get that cage (which is what you posted meanwhile)
As for why: I'd say this might as well have been an additional (informal) import tariff restricting the imports. Japan was pretty good in this too, where pure punishment through taxes wasnt enough they created absurd technical restrictions to limit foreign products in their markets.

Having seen these door bars I am still not sure they are worth the weight... not so much cause I want hank dead but more because I am not convinced they will stop much of anything short of the energy needed to accelerate the shear mass of them. These are not audi engineered, crash tested units: they are heavy however. Moving doors around the shop is a two man job, rolling the stipped car in and out takes one. I keep telling him we need to bolt a seat in, put goggles on and take a thrash around in a sub 2000 Lb UrQ :-)

Not sure if you do but I have whole bunch of pics from when Mr. Bond had it and even before.

Get outta my head Craig.. :) I have thought about just putting a 4kq rear end in, but now that i realize that hte strut towers are different, I think the way to go would to just cut out the floorpan out, and start with your own design. It would be nice to get the long snout diff in there too, so combined with the 11 inch scoot forward, you end up with a silly short 1 piece drive shaft. That would be neat.

It all bolts up, you just need the matching 4kq subframe, tie rods and ball joints. That is basically what a 1983.5 and up Ur-q is like.

The only difference between a 1983.5 Ur-q and 4kq back there are the hubs and matchine rotors, everything else is exactly the same.

So am I, but he already said Lago was his second least favorite color....after port rose. So that narrows it down for everyone. :D

Everyone knows that college students are notoriously poor and Hank already has a BUNCH of battle ship grey. When you're cheap what would a guy do I ask you? If it were me I'd have to pick the cheap way out and grab the grey, accidently drop the can and spill it all over the Lab's floor, spread it around to paint the floor a proper color and go buy a nice silver to paint the car with. :D But that's just me!!
