"HD" alt

Post by crappyoldaudis »

Al those "rebuild" shops do is spray paint the body and put in a new regulator, which is held to the back with two screws. you can get the "HD" regulators (bosch!) from any worldpac supplier for $30 and put it on yourself. If you actually have a bad bearing - usually from overtight belt and/or 20 years of at spray (makes noise), you'll want a $$$ Bosch rebuild to insure you have good bearing otherwise, take apert the housing and get a known high quality bearing from Timkin or whoever. The $100 rebuilts probably use chinese bearings.

Damn throttle cam broke. I appoxied it back together and I hope that'll hold. If not I'll have to suck it up and buy 034's steel one.

yep, pretty common these days considering the age of these cars.

My car is doing alright... its still not running yet because I'm waiting for my Bilsteins to get back (shortened and revalved) and for Hank to finish up my new tubular exhaust manifold, dp, and wg reroute :) Then it will be back together enough to at least move around and hopefully fab the rest of the exhaust and ic piping soon. Then I'll beat on it a bit on low boost (on the HX52 :D ) and next summer it comes apart again to do engine build and tranny! Meanwhile I've got a '94 530i to drive around. I just broke that too though. Should be back together by the end of the week lol

Mine broke too I made one from a 20vt work briefly(read couldn't keep it tightened down because of the stupid metal sleeve) before having to purchase the 034 piece which is nice. But in my opinion could be made better if the hole was sized to the shaft of the throttle body. Yet instead you must use the stock metal sleeve which made tightening it down a chore.

Epoxy failed. Ordered 034's steel cam. Can't have it break on my 7 hour trip to H2O.

I was using them at 24psi with my 56mm turbo (equivalent to 30r). Have ARP's now because I for one WILL be taking the head on and off several times in a short period and I'll probably need them soon as far as tensile strength is concerned. For boost... not for detonation lift lol.

Man i love your car Nick! Before you tear down the motor this winter you gotta get some dyno numbers for that stock motor :)

I'm back on pump gas for my trip to H2O next weekend so it's around 20-21psi. On E85 I was running a bit more...23-24psi.

Thanks Jon! That's actually a great idea. I'll wait until it's nice and cold so my (still) stock intercooler has a better shot at staying cool ;).

Thanks Chris. I like them on there too. A tiny bit more poke in comparison to the RK's too because of the extra half inch of width.
