Still needs more tuning, have to find the sweet spot that allows for spool as early as possible in lower gears but doesn't overboost in 4/5/6. 4th is hitting fuel cut earlier than I expected. Another alternative is to install some kind of switch that tells the ECU what gear it's in and run different boost profiles for each.

Could you integrate a signal from the VSS to the ECU to ramp the boost control?

Yes, you can set it up to be gear dependent or speed dependent. I think once I finely tune closed loop it will get me where I want to be.

Just got back from Chuck Walla Raceway in the desert.. The car was not as rock solid this weekend as it has been. Little things and 108 degrees kinda put a damper on the weekend. Session 3 on Saturday ended the day with the car dumping coolant because of a $2 plastic coupler in the heater hose I used when I first put the 20v in. I know better, but forgot it was in there...

Sunday started with lots of strange smells, mostly from what I thought was burning off coolant, but then I saw a puff of smoke from under the hood and pulled into the pits. It turns out the oil feed line on the turbo had started to work its way loose. I had to stand around for 5 min or so staring at it with fire extinguisher in hand while everything cooled down. I need to convert all of my turbo lines to banjo bolt style

Sunday after lunch it was go time. I was starting to finally learn the track and the car wanted to behave, except for the water injection. The pump was overheating.. I was only on 20 psi of boost so I didn't really need it anyways. I am still amazed this thing never overheats. Coolant was middle of the gauge and oil never went above 130 C. I was not babying it either. There were two ZR-1's and three R8's in my run group that had me on my toes.

The QSV worked great, I notice the car is much more responsive to left foot braking through turns that put you between gears 2 and 3. If you keep on the throttle and brake through the turn, boost is on hard pretty quickly!

I was only able to capture a couple videos because my iphone kept overheating and shutting down. Sitting here typing and realized I didn't take a single picture. I'll upload a video later, it is a really fun track. I am spent, did I mention it was hot?

This 2:17 lap was earlier in the day, I was able to shave 6 seconds off later in the day and run 2:11's as I felt more comfortable.

Darin, I am running a Devils own pump and reservoir, and an aquamist high speed valve hooked to an extra injector driver. I have a pressure switch that arms it at 15 psi.

I have a bunch of stuff that I should probably get rid of if anyone wants to save on shipping. If you are really interested I can get pics.

20" wheels from the A6, see the "ocho" link in my sig. These are $800 each new, but just taking up space now. Make me an offer. They have decent tires.
17x8" et35 fat 5's in decent shape $600 with some pretty used NT05's
18x8.5" et30 Rs6 Reps, one is bent and need fixed $300
GT35R that still has life in it. .83 t3 housing with 5-bolt discharge - $650
Precision 5857 BB turbo with .63 Vband housing, I would like to get $900 for this, it is like new.

I've heard a lot of good things about this pump from people, saying it's better than the Aquamist HFS-3 with none of the cost associated with a well-known/respected brand. Curious what you think...

The Aquamist pump is going for like $210, so not sure what the benefit of that one is? The expensive part of a water injection system is the valve and then rigging up all of the flow meters and fail safes and stuff if you want to do it the fancy way. The pump isn't cheap, but when you look at a $700 HFS-3 system most of the cost is in the other stuff. With the IIc, at least we don't need the extra controller.

That looks like a fine pump, and I actually need to call devils own about my pump that shit the bed at the last track event when working overtime in 108 temps.

Sam has a good perspective on this.

There are ways to do simple fail safes and keep the cost down. I run a 100 psi switch between my valve and nozzle. It activates an LED to let me know water is flowing.
For me WI is a nice to have and not a necessary evil. I leverage the IAT map heavily to recoginoze the system is working. This is assuming the nozzles never clog so I have a very good filter before the pressure switch.

jim, are you running a single water injector or per runner injection? are they 1/8 npt?

Two aquamist injectors pre throttle body. They are a funky thread, smaller than 1/8"npt. I want to switch to one per runner and a 6th pre-intercooler. Some day.

Jim

Have you ever considered a NOx spraybar setup like I use? It was because of the hiccup type/run dry issues that I went the way of Happy Gas as an external spray to lower my intake temperatures. It also had to do with an inherent distrust of water injection from my days as a USAF 135 pilot with 4 water injected turbines and the loss of power that comes with their failure during critical phases of operation ie. TAKEOFF. I once had an FAA observer onboard in the jump seat on a takeoff from HNL. Just after decision speed the H2O failed on all 4 engines and I told the controller to hang on cause we were gonna take a tour of Waikiki. We were looking up at the hotels as we went by just off the beach. Oh yes, exciting and terrifying days alright. Mr FAA was white as a sheet.

Hap, with some kind of waterboarding for real near Everboost, Maguire

Pretty much any road racing organization out there heavily frowns on NOx being anywhere near their events.

I would love to see your logs Jim for IAT. I am thinking about adding a small water injector pre throttle body to keep IAT's down.
