Re: Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

I've been busy with work but I finally have a little bit of an update. I have tried to make this thread very detailed for the entire build, show my mistakes in the hopes that it may help some fellow rookies as well as provide a laugh for the experts. I used to be a Mustang guy (forgive me) and there ...

So am I, me and the machinist were talking about how much damage that would have caused if it wasn't caught. Saved my bacon on that one.

Re: Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

Alright, finally got the block back from the machine shop. Crushed check valve has been removed, my machinist said that was one of the most frustrating jobs he has done. I also found out that my check valve I purchased isn't the same as the one that was in there so I need to order the right one. I'm ...

Re: Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

I appreciate the support. Hopefully I can be more careful from now on and avoid breaking anything else lol. I'm having the crushed check valve extracted right now, and I may go ahead and deal with the rods and pistons in the mean time. Any tips or advice? I have heard horror stories of dealing with ...

Re: Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

OK as it turns out I'm an idiot and already made a nice rookie mistake. Check valve was still in there and got crushed pretty good. I'm going to run over to my machine shop and see what they can do as far as removing it.

Re: Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

Unless the check valve was removed you may have crushed it if it's all torqued down.
That would explain it. I believe the check valve was removed already and I have a new one when I bought all the engine stuff. I'll have to go play around with it in a few hours if it is that simple. I expected it ...

Karl's 200 20v Avant "rowdy audi"

Well I am finally ready to start my own project thread. After lurking for ages, trying to decide the direction to go on a project I never intended on starting lol. I can't believe I have just about had this car for a full year and only driven it for about a couple months of that. I must admit that ...

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

What I was told was I needed the AAN ECU, AAN wiring harness, coils, a few sensors are different, don't remember how I was supposed to get the cam position since I was told to ditch the distributor completely. If there was an affordable swap to cop I may be interested.

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

He was concerned with running the distributor. Too much cost to really be worth swapping to a whole AAN setup, might as well go standalone at that point. Unless there is another way I don't know about. I won't ninja it for myself if you want it but I may have to pick it up if you pass.

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

I haven't seen this manifold on eBay, is it a genuine manifold or a knockoff? Since I've still got the stock 3b setup Marc doesn't feel comfortable touching a gt30 tune, I would have to convert to AAN at the very least, which seems a bit expensive. I would prefer to go standalone in that case but I ...

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

Yeah planning on running just a tune on the stock 3b ecu for now. Don't have stock rods so no worries on that side of things. My big limitation is the engine ate up all the budget, may change things around for more power down the road.

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

So after talking with Marc I think I'm looking at doing a k24 7000 with a billet compressor wheel or a k24 7200. Already blew through my budget on the engine so trying to get a decent setup for as cheap as possible now. Anyone have experience with this setup or any advice?

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

After talking to Marc I have discovered it is most likely due to the poorly designed stock exhaust manifold. I already knew it directed flow of 1 and 5 at each other but I didn't realize it would be that hard on the valves, just thought it wouldn't flow that well.

Haha yeah there is a little bit of ...

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

Yeah it was better than I expected really. Everything is full of rice these days, but there were a lot of actual well set up cars. Your car is awesome though, completely didn't expect to see that there.

Yeah my motor is out and has been for months lol. Hopefully have it done this winter though ...

Re: Introduction Thread and build planning

Nick it was nice meeting you too, I never would have expected to see another 200 Avant anywhere near me. I will definitely be making a build thread once I get everything together and get started on it. As for the damaged valve I am still unsure about that. The exhaust valve guides were worn but I ...

Introduction Thread and build planning

My name is Karl, I was told to join the project pad asap today while at a car show, so here I am. I have owned far too many German cars, although this is my first VAG. My other car right now is an e36 BMW set up for autocross.

Recently I picked up a 91 Audi 200 avant. I saw it for sale and decided ...
